Travel Tips for a Smooth Sailing Experience
Choose the Right Boat for Your Comfort
From standard wooden boats to luxury Phinisi yachts, make sure to select a vessel that matches your comfort level and expectations. Ask about cabin types, AC availability, bathroom setup, and food options in advance.
Stay Hydrated
You’ll spend a lot of time under the sun and in saltwater. Always drink plenty of water. Most boats provide refill stations, bring your own reusable bottle.
Pack Light, But Pack Right
Boat space is limited, so use a soft travel bag or backpack instead of a hard suitcase. Only bring what you truly need, there’s no dress code in paradise!
Respect Nature & Wildlife
Please never touch coral, step on reefs, or feed wild animals (including Komodo dragons). Help preserve this UNESCO World Heritage site by being a responsible traveler.
Charge Before You Sail
Outlets on boats are shared and sometimes limited. Charge your devices before boarding and bring a power bank for peace of mind.
Be Flexible with the Weather
The sea is a wild place sometimes itineraries adjust based on safety and sea conditions. Trust your captain and crew. They know what’s best!

When is the best time to visit Komodo Island?
The best time to visit is during the dry season, from April to October, when the weather is sunny and sea conditions are calm ideal for sailing and trekking. If you prefer fewer crowds, consider coming during shoulder months like April, May, or September. You’ll still enjoy great weather and more privacy on the islands. For information: Most of the boat operators will close Komodo trip from December to March during the bad weather.
What’s the difference between private and shared tours?
A private tour is ideal if you’re traveling as a couple, family, or small group and want the boat entirely to yourselves. You’ll have more flexibility with the itinerary and schedule.
A shared tour (also called open trip) means you’ll join other travelers on the same boat. It’s a great way to save money and meet new people, while still enjoying the full Komodo experience.
How many people are usually on the boat?
For shared tours, Start Labuan Bajo group sizes usually range from 10 to 20 people, if you start from Lombok they are using bigger boat usually range from 30 to 40 people depending on the boat’s capacity. We make sure the boat is never overcrowded, so you can enjoy the experience comfortably. For private trips, it’s completely up to your group size, with boats available for 2 to 12+ guests.
Can I bring children on the tour?
Yes, children are welcome! However, due to the nature of the activities (boat travel, trekking, wildlife observation), we recommend tours for children ages 5 and up. Always inform us in advance if you’re traveling with kids, so we can recommend the most suitable boat and itinerary for your family. Usually, for kids aged 5-10 years, we will charge half price, depending on the boat operator’s terms and conditions.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Not necessarily. While many of our tour highlights include snorkeling, you can still enjoy island hopping, wildlife spotting, and trekking without getting in the water. We do recommend that non-swimmers wear life jackets (provided on all boats) and let our crew know in advance. Safety is always our top priority.
Do I need to be fit to do the trek on Padar Island or Komodo Island?
The treks are moderate level, with uphill climbs, stairs, and uneven terrain. Padar Island, in particular, has a steep trail but rewards you with a spectacular view. Most healthy individuals can complete the hike with rest breaks, but it’s best to wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and take your time.
